As you can see, I truly get asked some strange questions. However, this question…
What pays for Golf?
…really did get me to thinking, which is what I like about people asking me questions about golf, business, business golf or just about anything. The questions I am asked give me the opportunity to pass on my experience or to learn something from searching for the answer.
But…back to this intriguing question..what does pay for golf?
I can take it that by asking ‘What’ it also includes who and the verb ‘pays’ in this question refers to supporting. In this case, the answer would be…
you and I and everyone else who plays golf recreationally or as part of doing business are ‘What Pays for Golf’.
Golf is a business..there is no getting around that, as well as it also is a sport and a game. Like the travel industry, golf depends on people paying to play golf. Like the rental car, hotels/resorts, food/beverage industry that depends on people traveling to purchase their services so does the golf equipment manufacturers depend on the people who play golf to purchase golf clubs, apparel, balls and so forth.
So as I expand upon what pays for golf it truly becomes clear it is you and me who pay for golf which means we are ‘What’ keeps golf going. There are no government bailouts or TARP funds for golf so it is up to us to keep golf going.
But then the question now is…
How do you and I keep golf going when we need to keep ourselves going?
That is a tough question.
The answer is not simple. In some cases, it will be impossible for some of us to support golf. Let’s face it, if you are an unemployed, golf is probably one of the last things on your mind unless you are unemployed from the golf industry. However, for those of us who are surviving, we are also working to keep things going until the things settle down in all sectors of the economy. This is naturally pressuring all business people to think out what best serves their business interests which are to keep doing business or earn money.
Each step a business person takes needs to have a firm footing on making a profit while learning what is needed to make the predicted CHANGE all businesses will have to make to keep that sound footing in their market. Learning how to do business, or in many cases relearning how to do business while making money, becomes the balancing act business people have to learn first.
The questions all businesses are asking themselves today is…
Where do I go to learn how to make the change my business needs to make and also at the same time make the connections I need to make to develop new business?
Isn’t that what you are asking? I know that is what I am asking.
The answer I have found to this question is also what I suggest all business people should consider if they have not already and that is to…
change the way you think about doing business and where you do business!
Yaw, you have heard that for the past 40 years from the traveling circuses of business coaches and motivational speakers…yaw…you got the message back then and you made the change back then. However, the message back then was incomplete.
The message today is…
Keep changing the way you think and do business.
Butttt… let’s get back to what pays for golf and what it has to do with change and doing business?
Every business needs to reach outside their box to get help in learning what and where to change the way they do business. They need to recast the tools needed to connect to the market where the consumers are today.
What these clichés mean is you need to go to conferences and seminars that showcase what changes are needed to be made. Go to places and functions where others are to get the information you need to find out where the consumers are heading. Combine where possible the learning with networking your business’ needs or wants.
Many business people are far behind the curve of learning the latest and greatest technology how they need to do business today. Some business people feel they are on the leading edge but are they really? Bottomline: Business people need to continue to learn new ways of doing business.
Business people cannot expect to change if they are curled up in a ball in fear of spending funds on learning. This goes for GOLF also.
So how does a business go about learning new stuff that keeps them competitive, make connections with new business people who have answers to their questions and Pays for Golf?
There is an opportunity below that I suggest you consider. It is a start of what will soon be a place where businesses can go to gain knowledge, connections and help the golf industry while learning new tricks for their trade. If you are in business, you got to do something besides trudging down that same old road that is today leading nowhere and you need to take the time to check out New things.
So, here is a way to make your move to improve your business and to help Pay for Golf.
Let me know how I can help.
