They say golf is dying because it is expensive and nobody has time for it anymore. Is this true?
From what I am seeing at the golf courses I play, the interest in golf is not sinking dramatically, but it isn’t growing much either.
Is Golf Changing?
Many of golf’s old-guard are now gone and there are more new faces on the golf course.
I would say golf, as a game, is stable to the point that people are still playing golf and there are always newcomers.
However, golf is not as popular as it was when Tiger Woods first entered the PGA.
If You Love Golf You Are Going to Play Golf
It is not that people don’t have time to play golf, because if you love golf, you’ll find the time to play it.
There has always been the option to play 9 holes of golf in two hours or you can just practice every aspect of the game at the driving range.
But, someone who doesn’t play golf might pick a less time-consuming game because golf does need a large amount of time for practice to become good.
The Price is Not Right
Now, let’s be honest, to play golf there is a HIGH price to pay. Golf is very expensive and you will need a big bucket of money to sustain playing golf frequently.
People who are struggling financially have a hard time playing golf since it’s expensive to pay for green fees, clubs, balls, a bag, shoes, etc.
I know a lot of parents have a very hard time supporting their children if they want to play golf.
Most parents who are able to pay the price for golf all have an image in their mind that their child is going to be the next Tiger Woods…which is not helping the future of golf when their kids get burned out by 15 years old.
The Answer is…
Is there an answer to why golf is so expensive? I have not found one that makes sense.
Yes, the land golf courses are on is very expensive making the cost of the operation be very high.
Yes, the golf manufacturers are not helping keep golf affordable. They seem to be out to recover every penny of the investment they made in R&D for new golf clubs for us to buy.
Is there a way to get around the high cost of golf? I would like to think so…but not found one. Maybe you know a way.
Let me know how I can help.
