I really think Michelle Wie is growing up nicely. Her game is much, much better. Her on course manors (on Camera) are much better and she seems to now show she has game.
However, her interview skills are very poor. Too contrived, off point and over scripted. She comes across a little (sorry) dimwitted.
Stephanie Wei reported, in her blog Wei Under Par, the excerpt of Michelle’s interview and made an excellent point.
Here are Michelle’s comments post-loss:
Q: On 13 you made that great chip shot and she made that long putt. Did that change things for you?
Michelle Wie: I just didn’t play that well coming in.
Q: What happened on 15 and 16?
MW: You know, I just didn’t hit good shots there. Sometimes that happens.
Q: It looked like your tee shot on 15 landed in the same spot.
MW: It was a little better. A little improvement.
Q: When she’s constantly hitting it dead straight, fairways and greens, does that make it hard?
MW: If you look at my score, I didn’t play as well as I wanted to. I had a couple bogeys out there and you just can’t do that. I missed a couple of putts unfortunately, but now I know what to work on. I’m going to work hard the next two weeks and get ready to win.
I know Michelle has still got some growing up to do. Lets hope she gets more comfortable with answering questions. She is what the LPGA has going for them right now and maybe they can help.

After listening to some of her post round conversations, she’s definitely not the best interview. Granted, after just taking a loss in match play, it’s probably not fun to recap and discuss the round in great detail. Hopefully, it will be a maturation process as most young athletes go through with the media.
