I ran across this article, Homes on Golf Courses Used to Be Hot. Not Anymore wherein the most part, I agree with what the author says.
I consider myself lucky on living on the largest golf course developments in Dallas, Texas. However, over the past fives years, the neighborhood has changed due to the original owners of the property around the golf course passing on.
Who is moving in is concerning.
In the article, it talks about golf courses closing and the fact there is less interest in playing golf. This also is concerning, but what is of equal concern is the Non-Golfers who are buying golf course access property.
In my neighborhood over 65% of the people who own the property connected to the golf courses are Not Golfers…some are even Anti-Golfers…people who see golf as a symbol of the audacious, pretentious, and high falutin.
Bad Attitude Towards Golf
Unfortunately, I am not alone. Most of the golf courses in the area are being filled with non-golfers.
The concern is their attitude towards the golf courses. There a handful who fill the golf course is an extension to their private property and will organize football games and other family activities on the fairway while golfers are playing.
My neighbor is a non-golfer and he told me he bought the property to keep from having anyone living behind him. In a year he told me he was moving out because he wanted to pool in the backyard but was concerned he would get hit by a golf ball.
Several homes down the fairway the homeowner had a sliding gate added to his fence so he could open it to roll a trampoline outside his property line and let his kids play on the trampoline just off the green of one of the holes on the golf course.
Golf Course Going to the Dogs
And, of course, the dog owners who are not golfers feel letting their dog out on the golf courses to do their business is also a privilege of living on a golf course.
This all very unfortunate, but what makes it a travesty is Golf…the game or sport of choice of millions…does not do something to entice more people to play golf instead of pricing golf to the small percentage who can afford Golf.
As far as the property around the golf courses, if the Country Club for our golf course was to add exclusive benefits to the property owners around the golf course the Golfing members of the private club would want to live on the golf course.
This could go for the other golf courses around the country who are struggling to keep members and it might just be one of the keys to getting people to play golf.
Who knows..until you try it. Let me know how I can help.

I like to go to the driving range sometimes. I don't own any clubs. Do they have drivers that I can borrow?
