Now, if I was to walk out my back door onto the golf course and ask the first golfer who came by why they were playing golf what would you think they would say?
Mostly like they are going to say something about getting some exercise.
Now, if I sat up a chair in my backyard and asked a number of people who came by why they are playing golf I can safely say that if I asked them on a weekday, two in 10 are playing with a client, business associate or some guy they met recently who is a salesperson for some business.
If I ask them on a weekend, 9 out of ten are playing to have something do, or playing for the fun of it.
Where and when rounds of business golf are played is what interests me.
Back in 2004, 5 of 10 golfers playing during the week were playing business golf which meant they were also spending a lot of money at the club afterward.
It was that extra revenue from the after-golf that many golf clubs were enjoying.
Then in 2008, and golf became another four letter word. Golf clubs revenue dropped off from the fall in interest in Golf.
Ten years later, Tiger Woods is back to playing Tiger Golf, and BAM!!! Golf is back to being of interest.
Unfortunately, Golf in a Cage became popular while golfers were looking for jobs and the marketers were unleashed and now Golf, too many people, is hitting balls off a fake grass map to a huge hole in the ground.
The Golf clubs looked around at their empty golf course and decided they need to do something. Instead of unleashing another hoard of golf fanatic marketers to get golfers on the golf course they decided to put a golf-n-the-cage feel to their driving range.
The fact remains, real golfers would rather play on a golf course. But, not for 6 hours waiting on a sixsome in front of them lining up 2 ft putts.
I push for more golfers playing more golf on the golf course. Let me know how I might help.
