Ever since the beginning of Blogging there have been bloggers who blogged about Golf. I called them the Pioneers of Golf Blogging.
Many of the golf bloggers who are still around have been out here as long as I have. A few have been out here longer and a few have just recently hit the Golf Blog scene.
Most of the pioneering golf bloggers I have spoken with over the years and a few of them I consider being a ‘Friend’.
The bottomline is all of the golf bloggers on the internet today are great people because…well…they all love Golf!
Golf Season Starting
With the weather getting better each day, most golfers are finally getting their clubs out of storage and are eager to get back on the fairway.
If you are one of the 25.95 Million golfers here in the states I am certain there are a few million of you who might find it interesting to know where Golf Blogging began and who were some of the golf bloggers who started the ball rolling for golf blogs.
I compiled a list of my Top 5 Pioneers of Golf Blogging. I hope you will follow their blogs..I do.
#1 Patricia Hannigan, Golf Girl’s Diary
I would be remiss to rank Patricia Hannigan my #1 Golf Blog Pioneer. There were a few ahead of her in the blogosphere but none who blogged with the ‘FLair’ Patricia has.
Patricia came onto the golf blog scene around 2006, the year I launched my book, How to Play Business Golf. She took a simple passion for blogging about the fashion of golf which lead to being the go-to blog for women and men to learn what is fashionable on and off the golf course.
It is her “fun, flirty, fashionable” outlook on golf as why I picked her as my #1 Golf Blog.
Patricia Hannigan is the Golf Girl. Her blog, “Golf Girl’s Diary,” was one of the first independent golf blogs edited by a woman and is now among the most popular golf blogs on the Internet. She has written for a number of golf lifestyle and travel publications and has appeared on Inside Edition and Good Morning America. In the wake of the Tiger Woods scandal, Patricia has become a go-to voice for the female perspective on gender issues in golf.
Her company “Golf Girl Media,” counts top professional golfers, golf courses and golf apparel designers as clients, and supports a number of charitable causes connected to golf.
#2 Tony Korologos –Hooked On Golf
Tony Korologos has been blogging about all things golf as long as golf blogging has been around. Hooked on Golf and Tony’s other site The Golf Space, where the blog sites I read before I started blogging.
Tony does an outstanding job of showcasing golf to the everyday golfer and reviewing all kinds of golf equipment and products. His humor is also canny.
I’ve been at it for a long time and I feel like I’m just getting started. Over the years I’ve seen hundreds of golf blogs come and go. It takes passion, dedication, and a lot of time to do it right.
#3 Neil Sagebiel, Armchair Golf Blog
Neil Sagebiel, is the founder and editor of ARMCHAIR GOLF BLOG, one of the original golf blogs on the Internet. Neil was another of the dozen or so bloggers who started blogging around the same time I started. Neil takes a straightforward look at golf using a journalist approach to reporting on current events. His storytelling is the best.
I started ARMCHAIR GOLF BLOG in 2005 as an experiment. It led to meeting Jack Fleck and writing the full account of Fleck’s historic upset of the great Ben Hogan at the 1955 U.S. Open
#4 John Diekmann & Doug Farrick – Golf Dash Blog
John Diekmann and Doug Farrick starting Golf Dash Blog in 2006. That was a few years after they started GolfDash.com. Their focus on helping you to play the best golf of your life with cutting-edge, peak performance ideas. John and Doug added podcasting to their site a few years ago offering golfers another media to use to hear more about what is going on around the golf world.
Both John and Doug are passionate about golf and committed to expanding the reach of the GolfDash blog through the many relationships they have formed in the golfing world since founding GolfDash.
#5 Stacy Solomon, Golf for Beginners
Stacy Solomon is another pioneer of golf blogging. In 2004 she started out just documenting her golf lessons. One thing leads to another and quickly this New York native became one of my favorite bloggers. Nothing real fancy about her blog, just pouring out from her heart over her love for the game of golf. She considers herself a beginner golfer even though she has been golfing since 2000. Maybe we all are still beginner golfers and just won’t admit it.
You can take the girl out of the Bronx, but you can’t take the Bronx out of the Girl! Golf for Beginners started out as a way for me to keep my lessons in a format where anyone could see them and benefit from them.
Blogs to look for this year.
Mark Neace – Caddie Club
The Caddie Club of Dallas has been around since 2003. Their website was launched in 2010. They are just now getting started with Blogging of which I am certain you will find some of their stories and what they have to report to be very interesting.
We understand the entire caddie process from staffing and training to operations, from scheduling to event management which means we hear a lot of stories from the golfers we provide caddie services. We hope to capture some of those stories on our Blog.
One of the greatest things about the game of golf is its tradition and history as a gentleman’s game. The original 34 written rules have certainly grown over the years, but it’s the unwritten values and etiquette of the game that sustain it. Regardless of gender, skill or level of achievement, the traditions of the game create an equitable playing field for all who step on the course.
Sean Peterson – Golf Trip Junkie
Founded out of a passion for golf, Sean Peterson, founder of Golf Trip Junkie, has become the trusted source for customized golf vacations. His ultimate goal is to exceed your expectations by adding his personal touch from start to finish.
With access to hundreds of golf courses and resorts throughout the world, we are ready to provide you with the same golf getaway experience, one that you will most certainly remember! Golf Blogging Coming Back
There were a large number of golf bloggers who were also pioneering blogging about Golf. Some are still around and others are not. It is encouraging to see more golf bloggers giving blogging a try.
I’ll try to connect with those I have not seen in awhile, but until then enjoy following these golf bloggers and…let me know how I can help!
