TOP 5 PRIVATE GOLF CLUBS IN AUSTIN
Found in 1899, a short 63 years after the battle of the Alamo was fought down the road in San Antiono, the Austin Country Club is one of the oldest existing clubs in Texas and home to one of the greatest golf instructors who ever lived, Harvey Penick. The ACC is also the home of the Dell Technologies Match Play PGA Tournament.
The Club consists of an 18-hole Pete Dye design golf course, Harvey Penick learning center, 57 boat slips and a large clubhouse.
You more than likely are going to have to be a good Business Golfer in order to become a member, but WELL worth whatever effort it takes to become a member. The Austin Country Club is a private, member-owned club and membership is by invitation.
Great Hills is tucked away among the rolling hills and scenic views of Northwest Austin, near the intersection of Highway 183 and Loop 360.
The member-owned, Great Hills Country Club, is set around one of Austin’s more challenging championship golf courses, an 18-hole layout designed by PGA legend Don January and architect Billy Martindale.
This course lets golfers enjoy the vistas and valleys of the Texas Hills Country. On the back side, holes are carved along streams and creeks to deepen the peace and natural beauty of the land
The University of Texas Golf Club was a vision that became a reality when some of today’s most influential University supporters set out on a mission to build a permanent home for UT Golf Teams. In November 2003, The University of Texas Golf Club in Austin TX proudly opened its doors and course to all Members and their guests. Today, The UT Golf Club is proud to be the home of the 2012 NCAA Men’s Golf National Champions.
From the richly appointed clubhouse to its panoramic hill country setting nestled between Lake Travis in Steiner Ranch and Lake Austin, the club promises a legendary private country club membership experience available only to a fortunate few.
One of the many private clubs in Austin that I have yet to play.
Onion Creek Club is Austin’s most historic golf club.
Founded in 1974 by three-time Masters Champion, Jimmy Demaret, and golf legend, Jimmie Connolly, Onion Creek Club has built a rich tradition of understated elegance based on quality and family values.
In 1996, Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, beautifully blended nine new holes with Demaret’s original design, creating a legendary 27-hole golf course; the best that Texas has to offer!
River Place has a soft spot in my love of golf. I made my very first Eagle playing at this club.
River Place Country Club is Austin’s premier family-oriented Private Club.
Over 6,600 yards of rolling hills, twisting creeks and rocky canyons comprise this memorable and challenging golf course. The course was originally opened in 1984, with a redesign in 1995 through the combined efforts of Tom Kite and Roy Bechtol. The championship design, as well as one of Austin’s premier Hill Country settings, makes this golf course a truly spectacular gem.
I make at least one trip a year down to the Austin area to play golf and eat BBQ..and, of course, have a Cold Beer. If you are as in love with playing golf in Austin as a whole lot of golfers are, you might consider joining one of these country clubs. I am not a member of any of these, but, like you, sure wish I was.
Let me know how I can help.
