It is no surprise North Texans natives have little concern with what the Groundhog has to say on Groundhog day. We know whatever he says it can’t stop the professional golf tours coming to the Dallas/Ft Worth area.
We are very fortunate here in North Texas to have three top ranked professional golf tour tournaments held here in within less than a four week period of time. That gives us avid golf fans plenty of opportunity to see golf played by the best players in the world.
Ladies First
First up for us is the 2015 Voluntees of America North Texas LPGA Shootout during the week of April 27 to May 3. This is when Stacy Lewis brings her gang of a few hundred women golfers from the LPGA to town to the Las Colinas Country Club to…well..‘Shoot it out’ to see who will walk away with the prize. In this case the shooting is done with golf shots instead of six shooters..well Ok..there could be a few shots of tequila made as well. This is Texas you know and we do love our Golf.
Where Plaid is Worn Proudly
Next up, from May 18 to 24th, we make a ride over south of Cowtown…that is Ft Worth to non-Texans…to this year’s 2015 Crown Plaza Invitational at the Colonial. This is the first time I can remember where the Colonial is before the Nelson. Oh how times have changed. But nonetheless, for the hard core, no nonsense, ‘watch every shot’, golf fan..the Colonial is a ‘U-Da-Man’ Free Zone. The only time you will hear ‘N-da-hole’ shouted at the Colonial is if there is a bomb raid and we haven’t had one of those in Ft Worth since…never. The Colonial is a Golfers Tournament and is the best place to see some awesome golf shots be made.
The Nelson is Still A Classic
This year, running the anchor leg of the North Texas swing of the PGA Tour events, from May 25 to May 31, is the 2015 AT&T Byron Nelson Championship. This will be the last year “The Nelson”…as it will always be know to true Texans… will be held at the TPC at Four Seasons in Las Colinas. The 2016 ‘Nelson’ will move to…’The Bottoms’ or ‘The Grove’ as it is known to native Dallasites… newly built Trinity Forest Golf Club. But until then, the pros tee it up in Irving to show us who is really able to play Texas Golf. With this year’s event being further in the schedule it is a safe bet when the PGA players come to North Texas they will not only get a belly full of Hot Tex-Mex, but will fill the bite of the heat of our North Texas Summer.
There is a Whole Lotta awesome golf going to be played in May right here in North Texas. Dallas and Ft Worth will be the only place where for a solid month you can pull up a chair and watch the best golfers in the world parade by right in front of you. Make sure to get your tickets early….
I’ll be out at this North Texas LPGA Shootout this year…hope to see you there.
