High School and College Shootout Puts LPGA Exemptions on the Line
Teens and Collegiates Battle for Shot to Tee it up Against Their Heroes
Irving, Texas, February 10, 2015 – 24 high school golfers and 24 college golfers will have the opportunity to tee it up at the High School and College Shootout with a prize on the line unlike any other – four entries to tee it up against their heroes in an LPGA event. The Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout, which featured 49 of the top 50 players on the money list a year ago, will offer two exemptions each into the field to the top two finishers in the 18-hole high school and college qualifiers.
24 high school girls and 24 college golfers with a verified handicap of two or less will be selected by the Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout Amateur Selection Committee to tee it up for 18 holes at Las Colinas Country Club with entries on the line to return when the professionals roll into town. The High School Shootout will be held March 11 and the College Shootout will be held April 27.
“The High School Shootout and College Shootout encompasses the overall message of the LPGA and the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf initiative of growing the game of golf,” Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout Tournament Director Kristy Nutt said. “The Tournament and the Nexus Club are creating a unique opportunity for young women to compete against some of the best players in the world.”
This will be the third edition of the High School Shootout and College Shootout. Maddie Szeryk of Allen, Texas and Annika Clark of Highlands, Texas earned the two high school spots a year ago, and Sammi Stevens of the University of New Mexico and Brittany Fan of the University of Colorado-Boulder earned the two spots for collegiate players. Applications to both the high school and college events are open to all female golfers nationwide. The deadline is Feb 20 for the High School Shootout and March 27 for the College Shootout.
