OK, here I am at the first LPGA event in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas area in over 23 years… the North Texas LPGA Shootout.
Lots of questions are being asked about the new events and I hope I can answer a few of these questions everyone has while I am here at the LPGA Shootout Media Center inside the Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, Texas.
The first question I am asked is..
What the Heck is a Shootout?
Like in all things in Golf there seems to be a unique language spoken by it’s players. The term Shootout is used to challenge an opposing golfer or group of golfers to determine who is the better golfer. Naturally, most people are thinking the word Shootout refers to the Old West which Texas has history with having a few well know Shootouts..one of the most famous being held a few years ago down in San Antonio between a bunch of Texans and a horde of Mexicans fighting over some joint called the Alamo.
But..now days the word Shootout is used in Golf as a description of an event where a group of Golfers are going to let their Golf Shots do the talkin and to sort out who determines who is the better golfer. And here at the Las Colinas Country Club the ladies of the LPGA have one tough golf courses to demonstrate their shot making.
With a $1.3 Million purse to shot for and 49 of the Top 50 women professional golfers shooting for it…yes..there is going to be a Shootout in Dallas and I will be here to see.
Hope you can make it to the event or watch it on the Golf Channel..it’s going to be FUNNNNNNN!
