For the past three years the Business Golf Country Club has been testing the market and trying out different social media approaches to building an online golf community exclusively for real live golfers. Since then I have been overwhelmed with the positive response from golfers from all over the world asking about the Business Golf Country mission.
Each person who tells me their horror stores of dealing with other golf groups validates the need for a private online club. Still, I have always felt there is more I can do to help golf, the people who play golf and the people who make a living in the golf industry. And after three years I found what makes being a member of the BGCC even more valuable.
In 2010 Dave Bisbee and I decided to shifted the BGCC into a higher gear. After a few false starts early this year we finally got the first stage of the change the BGCC is making off the ground. The next step to the online activity was naturally to balance the club’s business/social activity. With the common thread of the membership being Golf, organizing opportunities for members to play golf seem the logical next step.
So, we decided to start the process of launching Chapter Clubs. The first one in Dallas and the next one in Phoenix. Now we have New York and several other locations to consider to launch Chapter Clubs. This means the full concept of the BGCC is being grabbed a hold of by more and more people. Instead of members sitting online wondering who it is they are emailing with they can now go play golf with that person and enjoy the fellowship of other members as well.
Where we place a Chapter Club will be up to the members. If there is an significant interest stated by a member who wants to manage the chapter we will look into seeing if that location could support a chapter club. But we have to be honest, not every location makes sense.
More member benefits will be realized once the membership gets a clear understanding of what being part of the club really means. It will not happen over night, but will move pretty fast.
