I from time to time I run into people who have left playing golf who explain their reasoning for leaving was..
Golf Just Got Boring.
This can happen and will happen if the golfer does not make golf fun or develops a keen purpose to play.
Chase the White Ball
Many times people will take up playing golf for the wrong reason. Their reason could be peer pressure or just a misguided curiosity to find out why so many play golf. What develops is frustration from the seemingly long learning curve for golf.
I would have to agree, it does take dedication and a sound mind set to endure the frustrations of learning to play golf. I am not sure the statement..’It takes a special person to play golf’..is accurate since many who you would think would never play golf become rather good at it. The secret to enduring the frustrations of the hundreds of errant shots is to stay focused on the purpose you are playing.
Some of the many people I meet I will ask what drives them to play golf. The majority respond..’Because it is fun!’ When asked what particular part of golf is the most fun, the remarks vary, but all relate to them not thinking of the negative of where the ball should not go, but the excitement of wondering where the ball will actually go. The statement..”I just like chasing the white ball” was said a few times.
When Fun is Added to a Greater Purpose
What I find is very interesting, and encouraging, is the number of people who recently are telling me having Fun playing golf was not enough. Many obviously are affected by the failed economy.
So, now I hear the word ‘Purpose’ in the answer to my question, “Why do you play golf?”
Many will remark..’Because I have a purpose to play’..Or, ‘I have developed a purpose to playing Golf’
When asked what their purpose was all reported playing golf was part of doing business for them. Business Golf has now become their purpose for playing golf. How they go about playing business golf is concerning, but at least more people are seeing in order to keep having fun playing golf they need to develop a purpose greater than the fun. Business Golf is the trick.
So, when golf gets boring, develop a greater purpose for playing golf. Business Golf does create a purpose. Let me know how I can help.
