In the golf community there has always been this question asked…
Why are there not more REAL golfers online?
Recently I was told how a few of the larger golf businesses where starting to hear the rumbles from their online advertisers that they are not seeing that many golfers online. As a result the advertisers are looking to pull their ads and move to niche target marketing.
It was mentioned that in an effort to keep their high paying advertisers happy these golf industry companies could possibly be resorting to creating fake golfer traffic online by hiring people who are not golfers to set up profiles on Facebook and Twitter with ‘Golf’ in their names. Of course this is unsubstantiated but with the increase of volume of Tweets from people using golf in their profiles and who post only one update and accumulate over a thousand followers, this could be possible. This added with the FaceBook ‘Hype-a-thon’ that now show people saying they are golfers setting up shop there, Who Knows what is Real? Certainly a Real golfer can tell if another person is a Real Golfer. So who are they trying to fool?
To say..
that is the way it is and what has to be dealt with online
…does not come across as being funny or a just reason for these advertisers who are handing over billions of dollars to market their products online to golfers..who are not there.
Actually, there probably is a small increase of golfers coming online but as soon as they see the mess that things are in out here in La-La-Land they hook it back to the 19th Holes of the world to tell their friends what they found online. From there, the most powerful marketing tool ever…a golfer’s word of mouth advertising….takes place.
Fortunately, there are places like the Business Golf Country Club that cut out the noise of these fake profiles and provide its members with a clearer picture of who is who online.. The BGCC filters out non-golfers or anyone who is out to substantiate themselves as a golfer but is not.
Over the past 9 weeks since its launch, the BGCC has shown a steady growth of membership which would substantiate there are more golfers coming online, but not near the volume that Twitter and FB are generating or wanting everyone to think. If these people shouting on Twitter and Facebook were golfers they would be in the BGCC, but most do not make it through the screening because…they are not golfers.
If you are a true golfer and want to get out of the noise of Twitter and other none golf oriented communities, you are invited to join the only true Real golfer community online, the Business Golf Country Club. There is no Fake Twittering there… SO, I’ll See you there, right?
