Sometimes the simple solutions to Golf’s sluggish economy are the hardest to make, but need to be made. More golfers need to be talking to their goverment representatives about helping Golf help itself. Join the conversation on Google+.
Simple put.. “Golf – a major industry with a positive impact on America’s economic, environmental and social agendas – remains misunderstood by too many of our nation’s policymakers. WE ARE GOLF is a coalition that was formed to tell the true story of golf. Not just the game, but the stories of the hardworking men and women who make it the greatest sport in the world and whose livelihoods depend on it.”..from We Are Golf
Over the years golf and the millions who play the game have seen the game and sport they love take huge hits during the down turn of the world’s economy. Even though the Golf Industry contributes over $69 Billion to the US Economy it still is not given the respect it deserves as a vital part of improving the US Economy.
“WE ARE GOLF was formed in part because it had become clear the industry was misunderstood by too many elected officials. Longstanding perceptions of the game simply didn’t square with the facts. By focusing on the nearly two million Americans whose livelihoods are tied to golf, WE ARE GOLF has leveled the playing field for the thousands of small businesses that make up the industry.
As a result, golf is no longer being excluded from important legislation. Members of Congress now better understand the myriad benefits the game brings to their communities.
The nearly two million U.S. jobs generated by the nearly $69 billion golf industry, and its vast economic reach, are at the core of WE ARE GOLF’S message. Given the scope and pace of federal government activity and the impact on small businesses, the golf industry can play a vital role as policymakers continue efforts to boost employment and get the nation’s economy back on track. Beyond better demonstrating golf’s profound economic clout, WE ARE GOLF illustrates the industry’s health and wellness benefits, its unparalleled charitable giving, and its environmental sustainability initiatives.”…from We Are Golf

I’ll be keeping my eye on the development of We Are Golf and what comes out of it’s movement to show government officials what Golf could do for our country’s economy with the government’s support. Follow We Are Golf on Google+ google.com/
I have always been a firm advocate that giving golfers incentives in the form of a tax deduction for using golf as a business tool would boost the golf economy by at least $1 Billion a year. For the naysayers who will naturally say this incentive would be abused by the filthy rich I can come up with at least three measures that would keep that from happening. But, until those measures are needed..I’ll say that for another day.
