I talk to a lot of golfers. Most of them are in business or forced out of early retirement, but there are many who just play golf recreationally. Everyone of them have a lot on their minds dealing with both golf and business related matters. Here are the Top Five Things on Business Golfers Minds.
1. Investing in Golf
Over 90% of the golfers I talk with are concerned with the cost of golf. I would take it that the economy has a lot to do with this being the first thing on so many golfer’s minds. It is not just the cost to play golf but also the cost of learning to play golf and keeping the level of play at a fun level. The fear of getting hooked on golf and not being able to afford it is a consuming factor for many. For the business golfer, the ROI overly consumes them and in most cases rightfully so.
2. Quality of Golf
Well over 80% of golfers, men and women, feel they have to play like Tiger Woods or Lorena Ochoa from the first ball they hit. This fear of looking ridiculous keeps many from even trying golf or getting off the driving range. Many I talked to have experience being humiliated by others who probably thought they were being humorous by remarking on a beginners awkward efforts, but unfortunately their remarks inflicted harm in a number of people’s giving them an impression of how all golfers treat each other. Being a skillful golfers is every golfer’s goal. Get there is a challenge for most who are more concerned with how they look while on their journey to become a skillful golfer.
3. Time Bandits
Over 75% of the business golfers felt the time it took to play golf was counterproductive to their business’ mission. A significant number of this golfers said it was hard to concentrate on the golf course knowing their was business to be done. Most felt feeding the urge to monitor everything in the office was more important than taking the time to relax or reducing the stress of doing business. Time issues consumed these golfers.
4. Where to Find Golfers
60% of the golfers I talked with were looking for new golf partners, new people to meet and business people who play golf. The frustration is they are not finding them online. They are finding a lot of people who say they are golfers but in short time find they are only out for themselves and to get into golfer’s pockets. The social aspects of golf is on golfers minds.
5. Where to Play Golf
It was not first or second on their mind, but wanting to find a great place to play golf was certainly on all golfers thoughts. Whether it was finding a tee time or wanting to play Pebble Beach, every one of the 100’s of golfers I have talked to eventually said their interest was finding a place to play golf. Most are very picky where they played golf, as they probably should be, since all of them were out for the fun of golf. Fun for most golfers reflects on where they play golf and who they play golf with.
